After months of planning your kitchen remodel is finally becoming a reality. Maybe you’re a novice at this experience and even if you’re not there are some important questions you should be asking your contractor. Before you choose your contractor they need to assure you it will stay on budget, be completed when promised and your home will always be secure with different trades in and out. We’ve listed 5 of the top questions to ask before making a decision.
How do you break down your estimate. If the quote is all inclusive that’s probably not the best approach for you the homeowner. Request an itemized list of materials and a breakdown of individual cost.
Are there costs not included in the quote. Don’t sign on the dotted line before you know if there are any fees or hidden costs. Some contractors charge extra for things like demolition, painting or hauling away junk. You might be able to handle some of these yourself and avoid additional costs.
Who are their suppliers. It’s important to do some research of your own to be certain their suppliers are reliable. Additionally you want to be assured they carry the cabinets you chose and offer quality guarantees and warranties. Spending a little time now is well worth your peace of mind.
Who will be in your home during the project. You can expect between 1 and 5 workers in your home daily so get to know your contractor and anyone who will be working on the project. A plan should be in place for locking up keeping pets secure and materials out of harm’s way.
What’s the timeline. You’ll want to know when you can get back to your normal routine, and can ask for discounts or other things if the project is not completed on schedule.
